NAVLE STATE APPLICATION INFORMATION FOR:

Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia NAVLE Candidates

Updated August 2, 2010

NAVLE candidates applying through the above licensing boards for the 2010-2011 testing cycle will be approved directly by the NBVME office, not by the individual boards.

Only candidates taking the NAVLE for the purpose of being licensed in one of the above jurisdictions should apply for NAVLE approval through these boards. All other NAVLE candidates must apply through another licensing board, as outlined on the NAVLE Information and Application page.

Application Deadline

For candidates applying through the above licensing boards, the deadline for receipt of application in the NBVME office was August 1 for the November-December examination.  Applications for the April 2011 examination wil be available on this site in mid-December, with an application deadline of January 3.

Candidates with Documented Disabilities

If you are applying through one of the above jurisdictions and you have a documented disability for which you will require test accommodations, you should download and review the NBVME test accommodation guidelines for the above jurisdictions before you submit your application. It takes time to review the documentation necessary to approve test accommodations, so submitting your application and accommodation materials early is encouraged. This allows time for you to submit any additionally requested documentation necessary for approval of your request, prior to the application deadline date. You must mark on both the national NBVME NAVLE application and the state NAVLE application forms that you are requesting accommodations. Please contact the NBVME if you have questions.

Application Process

If you intend to apply through one of the above jurisdictions, you will need to do two things:

1.  Complete the NBVME NAVLE application and pay the NAVLE fee directly to the NBVME. You may complete the application on-line, or complete the paper application included in the NAVLE Candidate Bulletin. Both applications are available on the NAVLE Information and Application page of this site. If you apply on-line, you will pay the $550 NAVLE fee by credit card (Visa or MasterCard). If you submit a paper application you must enclose payment of the NAVLE fee by personal check, cashier's check, certified check, or money order (payable in U.S. funds) to the NBVME. The fee is non-refundable.

2.  Complete the appropriate state NAVLE application and submit the application and fee directly to the NBVME. You may complete the state application on-line and pay the $50 state application fee by Visa or MasterCard, or download the paper application and submit the state application fee (in U.S. funds) to the NBVME office by the application deadline. The application fee is non-refundable. All required supporting documentation must also be received in the NBVME office by the deadline date. Candidates sending supporting documentation from overseas locations should consider the additional mailing time involved. Required school documentation, such as letters of good standing and transcripts, should be requested by the candidate early to ensure all information is received in the NBVME office by the application deadline date.

If you intend to submit your state NAVLE application on-line, you must FIRST submit the NBVME NAVLE application.

State Application Forms

Applications for the April 2011 NAVLE for will be available on this site starting in mid-December for the following states: Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia.

NAVLE Retake Policy

The NBVME has recommended to licensing boards that candidates not be approved to take the NAVLE more than five times, and that they not be allowed to sit for the examination at a date that is later than five years after their initial attempt. Each of the final two attempts must be at least one year from the previous attempt. This policy went into effect beginning with the fall 2007 administration.

Some boards have adopted the NAVLE retake policy, and some boards have their own retake policy. For information on board policies see the licensing board policies on NAVLE retakes list found on the NAVLE retake policy page of this site.
