NAVLE® Test Specifications
Approved by NBVME July 21, 2003
Revised August 16, 2004
These specifications are based on the 2002-2003 NAVLE Job Analysis, which was approved by the NBVME in April 2003. Minor changes to the allocation of items in the Animal Species dimension were made by the NBVME at its July 2004 meeting.
The numbers refer to the target for the number of items for each category on each form of the NAVLE, and the approximate percentage of the total examination. There are 300 scored items on each form of the NAVLE.
The first NAVLE forms to be constructed to meet the new blueprint targets will be those administered in the fall of 2005 and spring of 2006. Full transition to the new blueprint will take place in subsequent years. This is especially true with respect to the new Professional Behavior, Communication, and Practice Management category, which will require extensive item development work to meet the targeted number of items.
