Updated August 30, 2010
The NBVME NAVLE fee for the 2010-2011 testing cycle is $550. The NAVLE is offered at selected overseas Prometric Testing Centers in the United Kingdom, Ireland, The Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand. There is an additional fee of $275 for overseas testing.
The November-December NBVME NAVLE application deadline was August 1, 2010. If you submitted your application by paper, rather than on-line, the application and fee payment must have been received in the NBVME office by the August 1 deadline date.
For senior students at AVMA accredited veterinary schools applying for the NAVLE, the NAVLE application includes a consent statement, authorizing the NBVME to report individual NAVLE scores, identified by name, to the candidate's veterinary school. This consent is only for candidates who are senior students at AVMA accredited veterinary schools taking the NAVLE for the first time. Scores for candidates who grant consent will be reported to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the candidate's veterinary school (or his/her designee) as soon as possible after the scores are reported to licensing boards. In addition, for candidates who do not pass, the school will receive a copy of the candidate's diagnostic score report. A candidate's score and diagnostic score report will not be made part of such candidate's academic record. Schools will be required to keep the score reports confidential, and to use the information only for internal purposes at the veterinary school.
Candidates are under no obligation to agree to the consent statement, and scores for candidates who do not grant consent will not be reported to their veterinary school. A candidate's decision whether to release his or her score will not affect the candidate's student status at the veterinary school.
Candidates who have questions regarding the consent statement, or who wish to change their consent, should contact the NBVME office prior to the opening of the fall 2010 testing window on November 15. Canadian candidates who apply for the NAVLE through the National Examining Board should direct their inquiries to the NEB office in Ottawa. A candidate can not change their consent status once the testing window has opened.
If you are applying for NAVLE approval through the California Veterinary Medical Board, AND are a senior student at an AVMA accredited school, AND you intend to submit your NBVME NAVLE application by PAPER (rather than on-line), AND you wish to grant consent for release of your NAVLE score information to your veterinary school, then you must download the PDF consent statement below and include it with your paper application submission. Both the paper NBVME NAVLE application and the consent statement should be mailed to the NBVME office at P.O. Box 1356, Bismarck, ND 58502.

Beginning with the November-December 2010 testing window, candidates will access and print their NAVLE Scheduling Permits on-line. The NBVME will no longer mail paper permits to candidates. On-line access to Scheduling Permits will be available for approved candidates in late September. The NBVME will e-mail candidates instructions and an on-line link where they can download and print their permit.
If you have been approved by a licensing entity to take the NAVLE and have not received an NBVME e-mail message by September 30, 2010 explaining how to access and print your Scheduling Permit, you should contact the NBVME office, by e-mail or telephone (701) 224-0332.
As soon as permits are available on-line, you should print your permit and contact Prometric and schedule your examination. Testing appointments are scheduled on a first come, first-served basis, so the sooner you schedule your testing appointment, the more likely you are to receive the date and location you prefer.
You must print your permit before your scheduled testing date, because you must have your printed permit with you at the Prometric testing center on the day you take your examination. You will not be able to print your permit at the testing site, and the NBVME will not provide faxed copies of permits to the Prometric center.
After printing your permit, you should read it carefully, because it contains important information regarding your testing appointment.
Name Change
If your first and last names, as listed on your Scheduling Permit, do not match exactly the first and last names on your government-issued photo ID (driver's license or passport), you should contact the NBVME immediately to have your record corrected and get a new permit issued. Even if the names do not match, you should still contact Prometric to schedule your examination using the scheduling number on your permit. In the meantime, the NBVME will get an updated permit processed, and you will be notified by e-mail message when the revised permit is available for you to download and print.
Candidates with Disabilities
Candidates with documented disabilities who have been granted test accommodations will have special information on their Scheduling Permits. All requests for accommodations must be approved by your licensing board and the NBVME. See the Information and Application page and the NAVLE Candidate Bulletin for more information.
Scores for examinations taken during the November-December 2010 testing window will be reported to licensing boards by the end of January, 2011. Boards report scores to candidates. The address you enter on your state/territorial NAVLE application is the address used for reporting your scores to you, so if your address has changed since you applied, you should contact the entity through which you submitted your state/territorial NAVLE application to update your record.
